Antique Carved Polychrome Architectural Mirror

Description

A remarkable antique carved mirror with exceptional architectural presence and richly detailed polychrome decoration. The substantial dark wood frame is embellished with carved acanthus leaves, urn motifs, foliage and classical ornament, highlighted in muted green, gold, terracotta and deep cobalt blue.

The dramatic crest incorporates an elaborately carved central medallion, while the lower section is finished with further carved decoration and a distinctive mask motif. The combination of carved woodwork and strong color gives this mirror tremendous character.

At 67 inches tall, it makes an impressive statement piece for an entry hall, living room, dining room or above a substantial console or chest, and is a particularly unusual decorative mirror for a client looking for something with history, scale and individuality.
