Description
A dynamic rendition of the legendary encounter between Saint George and the dragon, transformed through Salvador Dalí’s unmistakable imagination.
According to the medieval legend, a dragon terrorized a community and demanded human sacrifices. When a princess was chosen as its next victim, Saint George intervened, confronting the creature and saving her. The story became an enduring symbol of courage, faith and the triumph of good over evil.
Dalí interprets this heroic subject through sweeping black lines, fluid forms and luminous passages of rose pink, golden yellow and blue green. The mounted saint and powerful horse rise above the curling dragon, while the diagonal lance gives the composition a dramatic sense of movement.
Rather than presenting a conventional battle scene, Dalí distills the legend into an expressive encounter between opposing forces. The result combines the familiarity of a centuries old story with the energy and unexpected beauty of modern art.
Custom framed in an ornate silver toned surround with broad black matting, this is a compelling piece for a library, study, entrance or collection of modern figurative artwork.
