Old World Carved Teak Console

Description

This carved teak console table made in India features richly carved detailing and a warm brown finish. The front combines scrolling foliage, geometric borders and a shaped apron, while carved upright supports frame a generous open lower shelf.

The contrast between the smooth tabletop and textured carving gives this piece its distinctive character. Its narrow proportions make it particularly suitable for an entrance hall, behind a sofa or beneath a statement mirror, with space below for books, baskets or decorative objects.

Style and Historical Reference

The carved borders and shaped apron recall India’s long tradition of decorative architectural woodwork, in which timber surrounds, brackets and beams were treated as ornamental features. This console brings that architectural character into a practical furniture form within our fine antique and Old World furniture collection in Rancho Santa Fe.
