Hand Painted Dresden Porcelain Cabinet Plate with Blue Panels and Romantic Scenes

Description

A colorful hand painted Dresden style porcelain plate with alternating panels of vivid blue and white, framed by delicate gold colored scrollwork. Floral bouquets brighten the blue reserves, while the white panels depict elegantly dressed couples seated within leafy landscapes. A small central floral reserve draws the balanced composition together.

Dresden, in Saxony, Germany, became an important center for porcelain decoration, with independent workshops painting porcelain obtained from different manufacturers. Its decorative traditions are particularly associated with floral bouquets, elaborate gilding and romantic scenes recalling eighteenth century courtly life.

This plate captures that decorative spirit, bringing a fresh note of blue and a charming historical reference to a bookcase, mantel or display cabinet from our fine china collection. It also makes an attractive companion to our coordinating oval Dresden style platter.
