Large Oval Hand Painted Dresden Style Porcelain Platter with Courtship Scenes and Flowers

Description

An impressive large oval Dresden style porcelain platter, its gently scalloped outline enclosing alternating floral and figural panels. Rich blue reserves carry colorful bouquets of roses and mixed flowers, while white panels portray elegantly dressed couples in garden settings.

Fine gold colored scrolls define the borders and panel divisions, bringing lightness to the generous composition.

Dresden’s porcelain decorating workshops helped sustain the European taste for richly painted flowers and romantic courtship scenes. The name encompasses a varied decorating tradition rather than one factory, with many pieces drawing inspiration from eighteenth century porcelain and fashionable pastoral imagery.

Its broad proportions make this an effective display piece within a dresser, above a sideboard or on a generous console from our Rancho Santa Fe fine china gallery. The combination of blue, flowers and historical romance brings color and individual character to a home or office.
