A richly ornamented hand painted Sevres style porcelain plate, centered on a romantic scene of a standing woman holding a floral garland beside a seated figure in classical armor. A softly colored landscape and flowing garments are surrounded by an elaborate sequence of decorative borders.

Pale yellow floral reserves alternate with deep teal panels, complemented by rose pink edging, a vivid red inner band and intricate gold colored ornament. Small raised looking accents add further texture to the richly layered design.

The Sèvres manufactory originated at Vincennes in 1740 and moved to Sèvres, near Paris, in 1756. Closely associated with French royal patronage, its porcelain became celebrated for sumptuous colors, accomplished painting and elaborate gilding, inspiring decorative interpretations across Europe.
