Description

An intriguing architectural composition that brings together the grandeur of Paris and the restless imagination of Salvador Dalí.

A domed classical building, apparently the Institut de France beside the Seine, anchors the scene. Surrounding façades and bare trees are rendered in delicate, closely worked lines, while boats, small figures and unexpected equestrian imagery animate the foreground. Above, looping clouds and sharp rays of light transform the sky into a theatrical canopy.

The Institut de France is associated with France’s distinguished academies and its long tradition of intellectual and artistic achievement. Read in this context, the scene brings the ordered world of architecture and cultural authority into conversation with Dalí’s freer, more fantastic imagination.

Its appeal lies in that balance: a recognizable riverside setting becomes something playful and slightly mysterious. Restrained washes of color allow the intricate drawing to take center stage, rewarding close inspection without overwhelming the room.

Presented in a custom stepped frame with silver, champagne and darker accents, complemented by broad black matting. A particularly handsome choice for an office, library or sophisticated gallery wall.

About the Artist: Salvador Dalí (1904 to 1989) was one of the twentieth century’s most celebrated artistic visionaries and a leading figure in Surrealism. Born in Figueres, Spain, he combined extraordinary technical skill with an imagination that transformed dreams into unforgettable images.

His iconic melting clock painting, The Persistence of Memory, belongs to New York’s Museum of Modern Art. His creativity extended beyond painting to sculpture, jewelry, theatre and cinema, including collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock on Spellbound and Walt Disney on Destino. His remarkable legacy is celebrated at The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the Dalí Theatre-Museum in his hometown of Figueres.
