Royal Vienna Style Porcelain Cabinet Plate with Classical Musical Scene

Description

A richly decorated Royal Vienna style porcelain plate, centered on three classically draped women gathered beneath a tree in a pastoral landscape. A tambourine and triangle introduce a musical theme, while flowing robes in gold, coral, green and lilac bring warmth and movement to the scene.

The elaborate border combines pale blue and deep cobalt with intricate gilded ornament, creating a jewel like frame around the central composition.

Vienna’s original porcelain manufactory was founded in 1718, came under imperial ownership in 1744 and closed in 1864. Its prestigious legacy inspired later decorative porcelain commonly called Royal Vienna style, admired for pictorial subjects and richly ornamented borders.

A substantial display piece for a console, glazed cabinet or office bookcase from our Rancho Santa Fe gallery, introducing color, classical romance and an engaging reference to European porcelain history.
