Pair of Large Hand-Painted Chinese Palace Urns

An impressive pair of monumental Chinese hand-painted porcelain palace urns, richly decorated in the traditional famille rose palette with beautifully detailed figural courtyard scenes.

Each urn features large hand-painted reserves depicting elegant figures, children and attendants within classical Chinese garden settings, surrounded by an intricate deep cobalt-blue ground embellished with colorful flowers, scrolling foliage and gilt accents. Additional floral and botanical panels decorate the lower bodies.

Particularly striking are the sculptural applied gilt and green decorative elements around the shoulders and sides, giving the urns wonderful dimension and an especially opulent appearance. The dramatically flared rims are beautifully finished with dense floral decoration.

At approximately 36½ inches tall, these are true statement pieces. Their substantial scale makes them ideal for a grand entrance hall, living room, dining room or positioned symmetrically on either side of a console, fireplace or doorway.
