Vintage Hand Painted Japanese Figural Vase

Description

A beautifully decorated vintage hand painted Japanese figural vase combining deep cobalt blue grounds, extensive gold detailing and a finely rendered figural scene. Traditionally dressed figures appear within a garden and architectural setting, framed by geometric borders and floral ornament.

Its narrative decoration recalls the storytelling tradition of Japanese decorative ceramics, where figures, costume and landscape form a composition to be explored around the vessel. Raised animal form handles strengthen the silhouette, while the contrast between the blue ground and pale central panel gives the painted scene clear definition.

A handsome display piece for a desk, cabinet or bookshelf from our Rancho Santa Fe porcelain and ceramics gallery, with strong color and considerable decorative character.
