Description

This Tall Chinese Lacquered Cabinet is from China, late Qing Dynasty circa 1900. It is Lacquered wood with gilt decoration and finished in deep black lacquer and richly embellished with hand-painted gilt decoration. The upper doors are adorned with architectural landscapes, pagodas, bridges, rivers, and figures all set within elegant panel borders, a traditional motif symbolizing harmony, prosperity, and scholarly life. The lower section features graduated drawers decorated with continuous scenic and floral scrollwork, creating a balanced and visually unified composition.

The gently arched cornice, paneled doors, and shaped feet reflect late Qing craftsmanship, while the layered lacquer surface demonstrates the labor-intensive techniques characteristic of quality Chinese furniture. Both decorative and functional, this cabinet would have been used for storage in a refined interior, and today serves as a striking statement piece blending artistry, history, and architectural presence.
